  • 2 ahi tuna steaks - fresh or thawed about 6 oz each
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil - for brushing
  • 1 tablespoon high-heat oil - avocado or grapeseed oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds - white black, or mixed
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper - freshly ground
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder - optional
  • 0.25 teaspoon ginger powder - optional
  • 0.5 teaspoon mirin - optional - adds caramelization
  • 1 lemon - cut into wedges for serving
  • 1 avocado - sliced for serving
  • 0.5 cup cucumber - thinly sliced
  • 1 cup rice or salad greens - for serving

Equipment

  • 1 Cast iron skillet (or any heavy-bottomed pan)
  • 1 Sharp knife
  • 1 Cutting board

  • 1 Paper towels (for patting tuna dry)

Method
 

  1. Remove tuna from fridge and season with salt, pepper, and sesame seeds.
